Our first Music in the City outing with Jo at the helm didn't get off to the best start...
After many days of rain and high winds, luckily the rain held off till later that day, but the wind didn't, and our venue turned out to be an ideal funnel for it. There were only 12 of us and we feared we wouldn't be able to compete! After trying various options, we managed to find the best place to perform that had at least a bit more shelter.
Not long after we'd arrived at our venue - the vast space which is Guildhall Square - Jo messaged to say that her 12.45 Red Jet had been cancelled due to sea conditions, and she wouldn't be able to get there until just before we were due to sing at 2.00. So we found a corner of the square under the portico of the Guildhall, to do a quick warm-up.
Unfortunately just before we began our practice, it was the turn of the local bagpipe band to perform. We needn't have worried about people having a sneaky preview of our repertoire!
Good as her word, Jo had jumped in a taxi at the Red Jet terminal and arrived at 1.55 loaded with music stand, holdall with manuscripts and new red scarves embroidered with 'Sounds Lively' to wear for the performance. And very good they looked too teamed with black outfits.
Pieces performed were: A Word of Advice, Hanging Around, Strictly Bonkers, Dip Dim Bedward, Bawo We Tu, Shona Malanga, Funny Butterflies, Music Take Me Home.
Although the chilly weather meant we had a small audience, we enjoyed performing and look forward to next year - hopefully in a slightly smaller venue!
